Another experiment based on a published recipe from Fleischmann’s and once again I tweaked it. I have made this dough several times now and I like it with the substitution of bread flour for part of the all purpose flour. Give it a try, you won’t be dissapointed! Save Print Pizza Dough Prep time: 1 hour 15 mins Cook time: 15 mins Total time: 1 hour 30 mins Ingredients 1 cup bread flour 1 cup all purpose flour 1 packet (1/4 oz) pizza crust yeast 1½ tsp sugar ¾ tsp salt ⅔ cup warm water (120 – 130 degrees) 3 tbsp olive oil Instructions Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Add bread flour, ¾ cup of all purpose flour, yeast…
Today’s experiment was with cookies. No, not the annoying web cookies stored in your browser, but that holiday treat everyone enjoys – at least everyone I know. I based this recipe on a Lebkuchen recipe, making some slight adjustments. The cookie it produces is a flavor bomb – honey, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, almonds, ginger, vanilla and rum. That’s right, I wrote ‘rum’. I made a simple rum glaze for these warm spiced treats and these cookies could be called chewable Hot Buttered Rum! So preheat that oven, we have family and friends needing these delights! Save Print Spice Cookies Prep time: 10 mins Cook time: 15 mins Total time: 25 mins Serves: 60 Ingredients 1½ cups…
Instead of slices of Banana Bread or deeply flavored Chocolate Banana Walnut Muffins, do you just want the convenience of a tasty Banana Walnut Muffin? Well, you are in luck as here is my go to Banana Walnut Muffin recipe based on Elise’ recipe at Simply Recipes. This recipe is simple and can be made without a mixer – hand or stand! It creates a moist, slightly sweet, banana forward muffin that in my opinion is a winner. So let’s get baking… we have muffins to enjoy! Here are the photographic results of a dessert experiment I made recently. I have to say the experiment was close, but no cigar. The crust I used was a blend of graham cracker and ginger snap (that part works!), but the cheesecake batter was lacking what I wanted to achieve. So I will try, try again until I get it right! This morning I made popovers. To be honest, I had forgotten about these delectable, crispy, airy with a slight custard inside cousin to a Yorkshire pudding until I read a post about them while drinking my coffee. They are simple to make and versatile as you can ‘dress’ them with any jelly or jam (like the fig jam I made recently!), leftover cranberry sauce (like this orange cranberry sauce), butter, or honey for a tasty, simple, sweet breakfast. Heck, you can make these to go with a nice soup! I will admit the best results are achieved in a popover pan, but a muffin pan will work in a pinch. The straight sides of the popover pan and open structure help the popover ‘pop’…
Tonight, I was thinking I would love to have a nice slice of spice cake for dessert. Trouble is… I did not have a spice cake. Or a spice cake mix. Or the gumption to make a spice cake from scratch for just one piece. Then I remembered a recipe a dear friend gave me years ago – the 3-2-1 cake and I still had some 3-2-1 cake mix in my pantry! The key to a 3-2-1 cake is to combine 1 angel food cake mix with 1 standard cake mix in a large zip top bag, combining well. Then you simply place 3 tablespoons of cake mix in a microwave safe coffee mug, add 2 tablespoons of cold water and…

Ahhh… with Autumn falling here, I feel like baking a bit more. To kick off the baking season, here is a quick and simple but incredibly tasty recipe for banana bread. The beauty of this recipe is that it can be made in a single bowl with a spatula or spoon to ease cleanup, easily tweaked by adding nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, etc. I based it on Elise’ recipe on Simply Recipes. It also makes a fabulous muffin – perfect for a party or breakfast! So, let’s get baking!
