This morning as I was checking my email, a recipe popped out from the computer and I had to make it. This recipe, compliments of Suzy at The Mediterranean Dish looked and sounded perfect for this unseasonably chilly late September morning. I had all the ingredients and I had the time – Ana was still sleeping – and I thought this would be a wonderful treat for her when she woke up. I made a few minor tweaks based on my own experience and preferences, but basically used the same process Suzy did. Those tweaks were to substitute Zante currants for the golden raisins and used a mixture of Gala and Granny Smith apples. The results were delicious and you should definitely make this Fall treat soon! Save…
Here are some pictures of the latest apple fritter bread I made for my wife and I. I tweaked the recipe slightly and updated the original post with those corrections. Ana really loved this dessert – it was a delight to surprise her with this baked treat. Here are the pictures, which I think really showcase this delicious challenger to the ubiquitous banana bread. Give this one a try, it is a winner in my book! Enjoy! Doesn’t that look delicious…
Here is a holiday meal that I believe is a wonderful change from turkey or ham. I decided to give this recipe a trial run (sorry holiday guests!) for my Christmas dinner. I figured it would make holiday cooking a bit easier as I could prepare the roast for cooking a day or two ahead, vacuum seal, and refrigerate it. Then on Christmas Day, I could cook it in a sous vide water bath and once done, it would only need to be seared before serving. The pinwheel slices are festive and special, especially when paired with this Balsamic Rosemary Cranberry Sauce. Is it a little bit more work than the average meal? Sure… but aren’t you and your family/guests worth that effort. This…
Recently I received a a teaser for this recipe via the New York Times Cooking section and I just had to try it. Of course, that means I needed to rework the recipe for one or two servings so I would not be eating an 8 to 12 serving kuchen by myself! So I went to work and the results were simply amazing. So amazing in fact, I just had to share them with you. This kuchen is wonderfully flavored with lemon, honey, ginger… and naturally apple. This recipe is easy to prepare as well; the toughest part is waiting for the kuchen to cool so you can enjoy it! Save Print Apple Kuchen Prep time: 45 mins Cook time: 30 mins Total time: …
This interesting and versatile breakfast/dessert recipe comes compliments of The Baking Chocolatess. Anyone who knows me knows that I like apple fritters… I’ll even admit I like them a lot. So during my search for something other than a traditional fried apple fritter, this recipe screamed ‘Try me!’. Boy I am glad I did! This unique way of enjoying apple fritters is wonderful. Can you tell I am enamored with this recipe? Well, I am. So make room banana bread, apple fritter bread is getting into the rotation. You should add it to your baking rotation too! It snowed about 6 inches last night and in the Pacific Northwest, that means nearly everyone stays home. So I decided to take advantage of the ‘snow day’ and make myself a breakfast I haven’t made in quite a while. I am not sure why I don’t make this dish more often… and maybe I need to rectify that situation. This recipe is lightly spiced to augment the flavor of the apple and not overpower it. With a dough that puffs like a pop-over and true apple flavor, I think you will enjoy this simple and delicious dish. Let’s get baking this morning! Do you like homemade apple pie? Do you not want to make a full-size pie that you have to eat by yourself over several days? I agree… no matter how much I like something (even apple pie!), I don’t want to eat it every day and I certainly don’t want to waste it. Well, here is a recipe for making a skillet apple pie for one. Yep, that’s right… a real deal apple pie for one person – YOU! I wanted to make a delicious pie that did not take extra effort (like pre-cooking the apples, making a caramel sauce, etc) and I think I have succeeded by blending several recipes together. So here you go… a…
