Smoked Old Fashioned

Earlier this year, I was perusing a book on old style cocktails from very high end establishments around the world. I came across this smoked old fashioned and decided to try it. With a few adjustments, I found something that has never failed to impress and delight friends and acquaintances. Now, I want to share it with you so you can share it with your friends!

Earlier this year, I was perusing a book on old style cocktails from very high end establishments around the world. I came across this smoked old fashioned and decided to try it. With a few adjustments, I found something that has never failed to impress and delight friends and acquaintances.
Ingredients
  • 1 brown sugar cube
  • 7 drops of Angostura bitters
  • 1 part of smoky/peaty scotch
  • 2 parts of bourbon
  • ½ part orange liqueur
  • orange slice
  • smoked cherry
Instructions
  1. In a chilled highball glass, add the brown sugar cube and soak with the Angostura bitters
  2. Add the bourbon and dissolve the brown sugar
  3. Add the scotch and orange liqueur
  4. Swizzle to combine
  5. Add the orange slice with a twist, smoked cherry and ice
  6. Swizzle again and serve
Notes
I made the brown sugar cubes from dark brown sugar and my teaspoon measuring spoon. I tapped them out onto a baking sheet and let the sugar dry for 2 - 3 days in a cold oven. Once dry, they can be bagged in a zip top bag or snap lid container.

I used the following ingredients:
Hamiltons Islay Blended Scotch Whisky
Bulleit Bourbon
Grand Imperial Orange Liqueur
