Mexican Mule

I am sorry I missed posting this cocktail last night, but I was enjoying a show at the 5th Avenue Theater with a friend. I think when you try this twist on that current rage – the Moscow Mule, you will forgive me. In a Mexican Mule, you simply swap the vodka with tequila.  Of course, I had to tweak it just a little and I think the results are stellar! Give this cocktail a try… I know you will love it!

Mexican Mule
Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 1

Ingredients
  • 1½ oz tequila (make a good tequila like Herradura as pictured)
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 3 oz of ginger beer
  • ½ oz agave nectar
  • orange slice (optional)
Instructions
  1. Chill a Moscow mule mug or glass (martini or highball).
  2. Add tequila, lime juice and agave nectar to the glass or mug.
  3. Swirl or stir well to combine.
  4. Add ginger beer and ice.
  5. Stir gently to combine and garnish with ½ an orange slice.
Notes
I tried both silver and anejo tequila. The cocktail made with the silver tequila was smooth and simple, easy to drink with ginger and lime flavors shining through with agave sweetness underlying nicely. The cocktail made with anejo tequila was more robust in flavor, almost slightly smoky in taste with ginger and lime playing support with a hint of agave sweetness as follow-up. Both cocktails are delicious in their own right... it just depends on what you are in the mood for!

Chill a Moscow mule mug or glass (martini or highball). Add tequila, lime juice and agave nectar to the glass or mug. Swirl or stir well to combine. Add ginger beer and ice.
Stir gently to combine and garnish with 1/2 an orange slice.

Enjoy!
